Nicholas of Cusa enunciates the Cosmological Principle, in the Learned Ignorance. He says that the universe appears the same from whatever point you observe it. In practice he says that ours is not a privileged point of view. Isaac Newton, two centuries later, will add that Nature is simple and uniform.
