Australia. Japanese bombing of Port Darwin. Only four days after the fall of Singapore, the last British bastion defending Australia. Sixty more bombings of Australia would follow. It became clear to Australians that the only power capable of defending them from the Japanese was the United States, no longer Great Britain.
