Initially, Cellucotton met with resistance due to customers&#8217; modesty in requesting it, and Kimberly Clark sought other products and ways to market it. In 1920, Bert Fourtness, a company employee, discovered that ironing cellulose sheets produced tissues soft enough to be used on the face. In 1924, the first disposable paper handkerchiefs were marketed under the name Kleenex.
