But reinforcements had already arrived: 2,000 soldiers recruited in Corsica by Count Pietro Avogadro (a notorious bandit) and the Genoese Colonel Francesco Giustiniani. The Corsicans are tough, unyielding men. They quickly manage to drive the Turks back into the sea, who decide to abandon their attack and continue on to Crete.
